Overview

Ortho Molecular Products is seeking a Formulation Scientist to oversee, manage, and develop product formulation processes to produce high quality dietary supplements consistently and efficiently.  The candidate will work in our Stevens Point facility and will be responsible for researching and providing recommendations to appropriate business units on related formulation processes, new equipment, and process improvements.

 

This is a 1st shift position, Monday through Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

What you'll do:

  • Provides the process engineering capability for a portfolio of development and manufacturing support projects.
  • Designs pilot plant trials and full-scale manufacturing trials - writes operating procedures, trains operating team, provides technical supervision, documents the outcomes, identifies next steps and shares best practices.
  • Delivers the robust scale-up of formulation manufacturing processes from laboratory through to full-scale manufacture and justifies processing parameters for blend uniformity ensuring process safety, health and environmental issues are fully anticipated.
  • Applies formulation engineering processing expertise in order to identify solutions to increase manufacturing capacity, improve quality and/or reduce manufacturing costs.
  • Supports shelf life stability program and provides technical guidance.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert and during internal audits and regulatory inspections and provides technical support for formulation areas, including investigation and correction of process related problems and deviations from standards.
  • Investigates and conducts troubleshooting, and root-cause analysis of unexpected trends or results related to product quality and financial aspects due to material and/or process related factors during the execution of technology transfer or routine production.
  • Troubleshoots tools and analysis with thorough knowledge of product and process development, manufacturing scale-up and continuous process improvement.
  • Authors, reviews, and approves formulation master batch records for formulating, encapsulating, tableting, and tablet coating processes. Generate and maintain documentation required by projects and operations including batch records, SOPs, protocols, etc.
  • Assists in flavor development projects with knowledge of raw material properties, stability, and potential chemical interactions.
  • Coordinates activities with R&D team and project leaders, sales, regulatory, and other cross functional team members to ensure the delivery of quality results in a timely manner. Assist in developing specifications for raw materials and finished products and evaluate new and re-sourced ingredients for impact on formulations as necessary.

What we're looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related science field, Chemistry preferred, and 2-4 years’ experience in related science industry (dietary supplements preferred).
  • Basic knowledge of chemistry and physics; laboratory and quality systems knowledge desired.
  • Basic knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices cGMP, Regulations in 21 CFR Part 111.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (includes Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint); experience in SharePoint and ERP systems desired.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, memos, emails, SOP’s and other materials required. Able to write legible correspondence, and effectively present information verbally to other employees of the organization. Must effectively demonstrate the ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in written format. 
  • Arithmetic and basic statistics.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding and problem-solving capabilities. Able to effectively furnish and carry out instructions in written and oral form.
